The Full Monty.
Starring Robert Carlyle, Tom Wilkinson, Mark Addy, Steve Huison, Paul Barber, Hugo Speer, Lesley Sharp and William Snape. Rated M.
I had previously seen this movie on the big screen and it is one of a very few which I felt had lost little in the switch to the gogglebox.
Robert Carlyle has long been a favourite of mine from his Hamish MacBeth TV appearances.
His performance as the larrikin Gaz in The Full Monty has justifiably shot him to international star status.

The Full Monty shines a none-too flattering light on the socio/economic British landscape.
It has plenty to say about the effects poor social planning and government policy can have on a typical industrial town.
Sheffield, in this particular case, could substitute for any town dependant upon a single major industry.
But, as always, the human spirit shines through and despite their plight, mates stick together.
After seeing so many women drool over the Chippendales at the local worker's club, Gaz talks his unemployed mates into doing a strip too.

Each has his own particular hang-up to overcome and all is nearly lost when the reality of a job-offer rears its ugly head.
When Gaz brags to some of the local lasses that his boys will go one better than the Chippendales ... the full monty ... the voyeuristic audience is left anticipating the outcome as breathlessly as the local community.
Yes, I said community. It turns out Gaz forgot to tell the venue proprietor that the show was for women only -- suicide in the literal sense rather than theatrical.
The characters in The Full Monty are believably brought to life with charm, sensitivity and wit by a diverse and lovable cast.
